Preposições de Lugar em Inglês (At, On, In e muito mais!)

Hoje, vou mostrar tudo o vocês que precisam saber sobre preposições de lugar em inglês.

Sou professor de inglês (ESL – English as a Second Language) há mais de 10 anos e adoro ajudar os alunos com preposições.

Neste artigo, vou explicar para você como usar preposições de lugar, com muitas frases de exemplo e exercícios. Vamos começar com AT / IN / ON e depois vamos ver outros tipos de preposições de lugar

Então vamos começar

At/On/In

In, on e at  são as preposições mais importantes em inglês e lembre-se que neste artigo estamos falando de lugar (A posição de algo, onde algo está). Falarei sobre tempo em outro artigo.

AT

MCDONALDS

Usamos AT como ponto de referência ou para um local específico. Pense nisso. Esta ideia é muito importante. Quando você está andando pela rua e seu amigo chama você e ele quer saber onde você está (sua posição na rua). Você olha para cima e vê o McDonalds e diz “Eu estou no McDonald’s (I am at McDonald’s)”. O McDonald’s é o ponto de referência e o seu amigo sabe onde está o McDonald’s.

Nós usamos para mostrar onde estamos naquele momento no tempo. Pense sobre onde você está agora. Estou em casa escrevendo este artigo.You are at home, or at work or at school or at the cinema (Aprendendo Inglês no cinema? Muito bem!).

Vejamos alguns exemplos

Where are you? I am at home.

I can’t see you on the bus, Where are you? I am at the back.

Do you prefer to sit at the front or at the back?

I work at Charles Schwab bank.

Where were you? I was at John’s house

ON

Usamos ON para superfícies. Queremos mostrar que um objeto é suportado por essa superfície. The book is on the table. O livro é suportado pela tabela. Também usamos isto para paredes ou portas (ou mesmo teto). The light is on the ceiling. Um exemplo moderno importante é que tudo está em uma tela que usamos. Então, eu gosto do One Minute English no Facebook (I like One Minute English on Facebook).

Alguns exemplos:

I sat down on the chair.

I put the cup on the table.

I watched the movie on Netfilx.

I study English on Skillshare

I put the picture on the wall.

Alguns exemplos interessantes:

I am on the bus 

My house is at the bottom of the street on the right(we often use on with street)

IN

Usamos IN para mostrar que algo está dentro de um volume. Isto pode ser óbvio como no exemplo “a água está na garrafa” (the water is in the bottle) ou não tão óbvio “Eu estou no parque” (I am in the park) (eu estou nos limites do parque).

Vamos ver mais exemplos:

John Smith is in jail.

The butter is in the fridge.

I live in Dublin.

The milk is in the cup.

I found your keys in the bin.

Exemplos interessantes:

I am in the cinema  (Você também pode usar no cinema, depende se você está dando o cinema como um ponto de referência (at) ou se você quer mostrar sua localização dentro e não fora (in))

I am in the middle

He is in the car (on the car means “on top of the car”)

Outras preposições de lugar

Above/Over

The picture is above the T.V.

ABOVE AND BELOW PREPOSITIONS

Below

The T.V  is below the picture

Under

This crazy man went under the bus.

After

After the dentist his teeth are white.

 

Before

Before the dentist his teeth were yellow.

Look at this map for the next examples:

In front of 

The hospital is in front of the pet shop. 

Behind

The Pet shop is behind the hospital.

Across from/Opposite

The bookstore is across from the music store.

Near/Close to

The Toy store is near the restaurant.

Next to/Beside

The Toy store is next to the restaurant.

Perto (near) é qualquer coisa que não esteja longe de algo.

Próximo (next to) a é quando algo está em uma posição à esquerda ou à direita.

Far from

The flower shop is far from the school.

Between

The toy store is in between the restaurant and the music store.

Between (entre) é quando algo está no meio de duas coisas.

Among

I am standing among the crowd.

Among (entre) é quando você está no meio de muitas coisas

Around/Round

I travel around the world.

Inside/Outside

I like to stay inside when it is raining.

I like camping outside under the stars.

Preposições ligadas ao movimento no espaço

  • Against 

I put the chair against the wall

  • From 

I flew from Sao Paulo to Madrid.

  • To 

Costumamos usar “to” com movimento. Algo se move “from” (começa aqui) um lugar “to” outro lugar.

I go to school every day

  • Along 

I walked along the river 

  • Into 

I put my phone into  my bag

Esta preposição combina in (dentro) e to (movimento)

  • Out of 

Isto é o oposto into.

I took my phone out of my bag.

  • Off 

Off usually means away from

I fell off the bed!

 Também pode significar que uma estrada não é tão grande como outra estrada.

I live off main street

  • Onto –

Novamente você pode pensar em “On” e “to”. Lembre-se que on é para superfícies e que está com movimento. Então, usamos para quando algo se move de uma superfície para outra superfície

I jumped onto the table( I moved from the floor(surface) to the table(another surface)

  • Past 

To go beyond something

I walked past the shops by accident.

  • Up 

I climbed up the ladder

  • Down 

I walked down the mountain.

  • Through

We drove through the tunnel.
