The seasons of the year winter, summer, spring, and fall(autumn) are not usually capitalized in English. The only times they are capitalized are when they are at the beginning of sentences, in titles and when they form part of a proper noun.

Let’s look at some examples to make this clearer:

I don’t get home until winter 2025. 

This is the first winter that I have seen snow. 

This winter is much colder than last winter.

 

The Winter’s Tale is a play by William Shakespeare. (Title)

Winter is coming. (Start of a sentence)

The Winter Games are starting in two weeks. (Part of a proper noun).

Is Winter Break Capitalized?

The phrase “winter break” should not be capitalized when describing a vacation. “Winter Break” should be capitalized when describing an event.

Examples:

Oh, I really need winter break this year.

I can’t wait for the Winter Break Festival this year. 

Is Winter Solstice Capitalized?

The phrase “winter solstice” should not be capitalized when describing the time of the year. . “Winter Solstice” should be capitalized when describing an event.

Examples:

The winter solstice is on the 21rst of December in the Northern Hemisphere. 

Let’s go to the Winter Solstice Pagan Festival in Edinburgh.

Is Winter Olympics Capitalized?

Yes, “Winter Olympics” should be capitalized. 

Example:

The Winter Olympics are taking place in Bern this year. 

Is Winter Wonderland Capitalized?

Yes, “Winter Wonderland” should be capitalized as it is usually the name of a place or the title of a song.
