How To Create an Email to Introduce Yourself to a New Client

A new client onboarding email, also called an introduction email, can be difficult to get right. You have to balance expectations with enthusiasm and create an open communication line, all of which will become important as your work with the client progresses.

To create a solid introduction email to a client, start with a personal introduction and connection, then talk about the project you’ll be working on for them, and finally invite them to meet with you to discuss the details.

What a Good Introduction Email for a New Client Looks Like

Depending on the context of the introduction, you may need your email to do a few different things for your client.

If you are working with a larger company and have been assigned a new client, you’ll want to establish what company you work for, what your role is, what the project is going to look like, and how your client can contact you to discuss the work. You’ll also want to set up a consultation either in person or virtually to fully flesh out the details of the project.

If you are a freelancer who is onboarding a new client independently, you’ll want to establish who you are and how you were connected to this client. From there, the setup of the email is essentially the same: project details, contact information, and setting up an initial consultation.
