“Hi there!” What does ‘there’ mean? How to use Hi there in English?

“Hi there” is a common informal greeting in English. We often use hi there when we are a little bit surprised to see someone because we didn’t see them at first. 

Hi is an informal way to greet someone in English. You can also use hey or hello. 

“There” in English means that something is far away from you. In this case, there doesn’t necessarily mean far away in modern usage. We use there to be friendly and/or show surprise
