Nice to talk to you or Nice talking to you? Which is correct?

When you are chatting with a friend, you may want to end the conversation. That is why you might say, “Nice talking to you” or somebody might say “Nice to talk to you”. These phrases are not exactly the same So, let’s find the difference between these two phrases.

“Nice talking to you” means that the conversation was good but now it is time to end the conversation. “Nice to talk to you” is more common before the conversation begins.”It will be nice to talk to you”

“Nice to talk to you” is more often used to speak about talking to someone in a neutral way(Just that the conversation was nice). “Nice talking to you” adds more information(that the conversation is at its end).

“Nice to talk to you” can be used in a variety of verb tenses and is often used before a conversation.  

It will be nice to talk to you later at the meeting.

It would be nice to talk to you if you get a chance.

“Nice to talk” is more common to talk about having conversations in general.

It is nice to talk.(in general, to unburden your mind)

It will be nice to talk to John again, I haven’t seen him in ages

It was nice to have finally talked to you. (Similar to “ It was nice to have finally met you”)

Nice talking to you

Nice talking to you is a polite way to end a conversation. People often use their body language to indicate that they want to end a conversation. There is also a natural flow to a conversation and when the topics of conversation start to run out, then it is a good time to end the conversation. You can do this with “Nice talking to you”

A conversation example:

John: ……………., And that is how I ended up at the disco.

Peter: Oh great, What a story! Well…. I gotta go, it was nice talking to you again John.

John: Yeah, you too Peter, see you again soon. 

Nice talking with you or Nice talking to you

You can use either “Nice talking with you” or “Nice talking to you” in your conversations. The preposition with has more of a meaning that two people were engaged in the conversation. To has more of a meaning that only one person was talking. In real English, both are acceptable.
