Subject and Object Pronouns in English (+direct and indirect)Grammar / By Conor The subject of the sentence is the person/ thing that does the action. I drive my car. I am the person who controls the car so I am the subject. The subject is usually at the beginning of the sentence. Examples: I play tennis. You dance Tango. He likes coffee. She dreams about cats. We live here. They love art. Object Pronouns Object pronouns receive the action. They come after the verb. She loves me. I receive love so we use me. He talked to me. I hit you. John knows him. Peter plays with her. They live with us. Alice drives them to school. Direct and Indirect Object Pronouns Sometimes we need 2 object pronouns. I gave the ball to them. In this sentence, the ball is the direct object, and them is the indirect object. Things as Pronouns We use it for subject and object singular things. We use they for subject plural and them for object plural things. Examples Where are my keys? I left them on the table. My guitar is from Belgium. It sounds great!
