How to Reply to A Salary Increase Email

Your response to getting a salary increase is going to change depending on the kind of salary increase you’ve been offered.

Replies for standard salary increases outlined in your contract should be short but appreciative. Replies for salary increases due to high performance or merit should be appreciative and offer enthusiasm for future collaboration.

Here’s how to reply to a salary increase.

How to Reply to A Salary Increase Email

There are two main reasons you may receive a salary increase.

The first is that your salary increases incrementally according to a set scale as established in your contract with your employer. These increases are usually scheduled well in advance and anticipated.

The second is that your salary is being increased for a specific reason – you may have shown exceptional merit or skill or taken on more responsibility with the company. You may have asked for these increases or been given them unexpectedly.

Replying to a salary increase email offers two main benefits. Firstly, it shows engagement and enthusiasm for your workplace, which can reflect favorably on you. Secondly, it offers confirmation to the billing department that you are aware of the increase and offers you a written record of the change.

For the first kind of salary increase, a short thank you email will suffice. Since this is an established pay rise, the notice of increase may be automated, meaning that no reply is necessary.

For the second kind of salary increase, you should express your appreciation for the increase and the recognition of your work. If you asked for the increase, offer gratitude for our employer’s willingness to meet. If you were given it unexpectedly, you may show your pleasant surprise.

In either case, you might choose to offer your enthusiasm for your continued work together in the conclusion of the email, though this is optional.
