Italki is a platform that is similar to a marketplace. It connects teachers and students.
It is important to know that the teachers choose the price of Italki classes. There is a minimum price of $4 to a maximum of $80. Most Italki classes cost between $10 and $20.
How prices work on Italki
As I said before, the teachers choose their own prices. Many new teachers charge a low rate to try and attract more students and then increase their prices when they are more established on Italki. So, it is a good idea to buy a package(10 lessons) if you find a teacher that works well with you. I prefer to use Italki on my computer because it is more comfortable.
Extra Costs
Just so you know, Italki takes a 15% commission from the price you pay the teacher. This is not extra for you. You will, however, have to pay a 4% charge when you add your money to your Italki account. This is much higher than a similar platform called Preply that only charge $0.30 to make a payment.

Cancellation policy
You are required to cancel your classes with your teacher 24 hours in advance. If you do not do this, you may lose your money. If you don’t want to have classes with a teacher anymore, then you can cancel your package and use the money for other classes. You cannot get a refund once you put money in your Italki wallet. Your credit will last as long as you have your Italki account but you need to login once a year.

Find a great teacher
Italki is a great website to find a great teacher. There are so many good teachers from all around the world on Italki and you can learn English from the comfort of your own home. Italki is a real language learner’s website so you can find many people who are interested in learning a language there.
Focus on Speaking
Many English classes are focused on boring grammar rules or exercises. Classes on Italki are usually focused on Speaking and Listening and for that reason, you will be much better prepared to speak with native English speakers because you will be practicing with native speakers.
Alternatives to Italki
Cambly works a little differently to Italki. I think it is a great option if you want to improve your speaking skills because you get to practice your English with many teachers from around the world. It is more like a gym membership so be careful and be consistent after you purchase your minutes on Cambly.
